5 Most Common Las Vegas Pests

Las Vegas is world renown for its awe inspiring mega resorts, its entertaining shows, and hopping night life. Vacationers and residents alike can dine in the finest restaurants, cool off in lavish pools, and try their luck at a hand or two of black jack.

What many people don’t know is that Las Vegas has a dark side. The city is also home to some serious pests (and no, we’re not talking about the smut peddlers on the Strip).

Thanks to Las Vegas’ hot summers, dry winters and rainy springs, pests like ants, scorpions, crickets, roaches, spiders, bed bugs and termites all call Vegas their home.

Here are the top five most common pests that Bulwark Exterminating takes calls about in the city of Las Vegas, NV:

5. Desert Recluses

Desert Recluse - Loxosceles sp.

Often mistaken for its similar cousin the brown recluse, the desert recluse is another dangerous Las Vegas pest. Hiding in the tiniest, darkest, places it can find, the desert recluse is a threat to Las Vegas homeowners; because of their toxic bites. These spiders are a light brown, with a near black violin-shaped spot. Its legs are light brown, and its oval-shaped abdomen is dark brown, or even a greenish yellow. If disturbed by humans, the desert recluse will bite, producing a mild stinging, followed by redness and intense pain. Bites can cause death to the young, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

4. Black Widows

Black Widow Spider

The most recognizable of the Las Vegas pests also happens to be one of the most common… and the most dangerous. She’s the Black Widow spider, and she is marked with an unmistakable red hour glass underneath her large, glossy, black abdomen. Stay away from these deadly pests because their bites are serious business that may require medical treatment and anti-venom. Symptoms include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Professional spider control services can keep these nasty pests from building their webs anywhere near your Las Vegas property.

3. Cockroaches

Roach On Cracker

The dirtiest and most disgusting of the Las Vegas pests is also one of the most common. Number three on our list is the dirty, disease spreading cockroach. When referring to Las Vegas cockroaches, we are specifically talking about four different species. The American cockroach (also known as a water bug), the Australian cockroach (a littler version of the American), the Oriental cockroach, and the German cockroach are the four common Las Vegas roaches. Not only are these cockroaches found infesting your homes, they also infest Las Vegas restaurants. Professional roach control methods are needed to eliminate these pests from our Las Vegas homes.

2. Bark Scorpions

Scorpion_Top_View

The most notorious pest found in Las Vegas; also happens to be one of the most common. It’s the Arizona Bark scorpion; commonly referred to as a bark scorpion. Las Vegas scorpions unleash a painful sting that can leave you incapacitated for hours, even days. When stung, you’ll experience pain, dizziness, burning sensations, darting eyes, nausea, and vomiting. Professional scorpion control can keep these dangerous Las Vegas pests away from your home.

1. Crickets

Cricket

The most forgotten of Las Vegas pests, happens to be the most common. Crickets are the most frequently called about pests in Las Vegas, according to a recent survey by Bulwark Pest Control. Because they are not dangerous pests, they are often times overlooked. Las Vegas homeowners are reminded of these common pests when they start their loud chirping at night. Because they reproduce so rapidly, they can be found in huge numbers in and around Las Vegas homes.

Las Vegas Real Estate Guide

Learning the basics of Las Vegas real estate will help you to purchase responsibly. You will know when the best time to acquire property is, and how you can look for a house that meets all residential requirements. In addition, you will also be able to speculate future trends with some degree of accuracy.

Major Residential Areas

Las Vegas is known for its luxurious grandeur. Along The Strip lie several high rises that are ideal for the lavish metropolitan lifestyle the city has to offer. You will also find the Sky Las Vegas along The Strip. This apartment provides all the facilities of a fully-furnished apartment and the lifestyle that comes with it.

If you are looking for condominiums, City Center is the place you should be visiting, not to mention the City Center skyline which is another piece of architecture worth looking at.

Long-term Investments in Las Vegas Real Estate

Many people perceive Las Vegas as an entertainment city and nothing else. Hence, they do not consider purchasing residential property in this city.

However, while it is true that Las Vegas is home to dozens of casinos, hotels, malls, and parks, it also has sufficient amenities for daily living. For instance, did you know that Las Vegas has more libraries than any other metropolitan city in the US?

The city’s education level is impressive, as about 80% of residents have senior high school and college education. The student-to-teacher ratio in 2012 was 18:1. So just keeping the education statistics in mind, you can actually consider investing in an apartment or condominium in Las Vegas as a permanent residence.

Current and Future Trends

Ever since the recession, the Las Vegas property market faced high rates of foreclosure. Many speculated that property prices will continue to fall in 2013. However, others were of the view that 2013 will be the year when the market will resurge, and currently, prices are going up.

However, the current mode of property buying/selling is short sale. It entails a lengthy procedure which many are willing to go through. This is because the local inventory is currently low. Those who want to sell off their property without short sale will have to wait till banks start foreclosure.

But even though prices are going up, recovery seems weak. Various factors come into play, and limited lending, government legislation, and the overall economy will play their part to slow recovery down.
