OK, I have researched alot of natural remedies for keeping ants at bay, but I have never heard of this for spiders before. I found a funny but unproductive thread on the subject at: http://www.insectreport.org – they seem to be from Britian – the use of the word “Mum” is a dead give away.

They may or may not work for keeping spiders at bay – but in the meantime conkers are great fun for competitions known simply as “conkers”! Simply attach them to the end of some string and it your opponent’s conker.
